Ford Focus remains world’s best-selling nameplate

For the second year running the Ford Focus has ranked as the world’s best-selling vehicle nameplate, according to industry analyst Polk’s new vehicle registration data.

Coming off 2012′s title win, the Ford Focus has again secured top spot for 2013 with global registrations of 1,097,618 cars – up 8.1 per cent compared with the 1,014,965 sold in 2012. The global figure includes 317,110 units in Europe and 403,219 in China – the latter up 50 per cent on 2012, and means that country accounts for more than one out of every three Focuses sold worldwide. In Australia, there were 19,180 Focuses sold in 2013.

The Focus is built in eight manufacturing plants across four continents, with a joint annual capacity of more than 1.5 million vehicles. It has sold more than 12 million units globally since its launch in 1998.

The latest Polk data also confirmed the Ford Fiesta claimed the title of top-selling subcompact car globally, with 735,299 registrations.

The facelifted 2015 Ford Focus sedan was revealed ahead of its debut at next week’s 2014 New York auto show, promising further improvements to the small car and a new look. It should arrive in local showrooms by mid-2015.
